Is there a large-diameter design for forged steel gate valves?
Forged steel gate valves are generally designed with small diameters as the mainstream application, but there are also large diameters used in special fields.
The conventional diameter of forged steel gate valves defined domestically is DN10-DN50 (i.e. nominal diameter 10-50mm), mainly serving small flow and high pressure scenarios. In addition, forging technology is suitable for the manufacturing of small precision components, with high material density. However, due to the difficulty and cost of forming, valve bodies above DN50 are usually cast using casting technology.
For special fields, some manufacturers can customize forged steel gate valves with a diameter of DN50 or above for special needs (such as high pressure and high cleanliness), but they need to redesign the mold and optimize the forging process, which significantly increases the cost! So for scenarios with DN>50, it is recommended to choose cast steel gate valves or evaluate the technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness of customized forged steel solutions.
